Tempus Lifts 2026 Revenue Forecast To $1.60 Billion As Third-Quarter Loss Shrinks To $14.9 Million

Tempus AI, the healthcare technology company that runs cancer-testing labs and licenses patient data to drugmakers, raised its full-year revenue guidance to $1.60 billion to $1.605 billion after third-quarter sales climbed 23% to $411.5 million, the company said Monday. The quarterly net loss narrowed to $14.9 million, from $80.0 million a year earlier.

A loss helped by paper gains

The net loss of $14.9 million, or $0.08 per share, compares with $0.46 per share a year ago. It includes $42.8 million of unrealized gains on marketable securities, set against $50.8 million of stock-based compensation and related employer payroll taxes.

Loss from operations was $56.9 million, against $61.0 million in the year-earlier quarter. Adjusted EBITDA, which strips out items such as interest, stock pay and fair-value changes, reached $25.6 million versus $1.5 million. The company ended September with $854.4 million in cash and marketable securities.

The new revenue outlook represents about 25% annual growth. Tempus kept its adjusted EBITDA expectation at about $65 million.

Testing volume and data licensing both accelerate

Tempus, which sells diagnostic tests and licenses de-identified data and analytics to pharmaceutical companies, said diagnostics revenue rose 20% to $303.5 million. Oncology test volume grew 32%, while hereditary revenue grew 3%. Minimal residual disease testing, which checks for leftover cancer after treatment, reached about 12,000 tests, up 300%.

Data and applications revenue rose 33% to $108.1 million, with the Insights unit up 29%. Gross profit increased 27% to $266.7 million, led by that segment.

"Q3 was another record quarter," said Eric Lefkofsky, founder and CEO of Tempus.

Drugmaker deals and the Personalis vote

In October, Tempus announced a collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb that lifted total data-licensing bookings above $550 million for the year to date. Tempus is licensing oncology data and models directly to the drugmaker for up to $137.5 million over five years. Separately, Bristol Myers Squibb and Pathos are licensing Alzheimer's and dementia patient data for $55 million over five years.

Tempus also announced a multi-year collaboration with Merck and Moderna on their individualized neoantigen cancer therapy, and received two FDA 510(k) clearances for cardiology ECG tools.

The pending Personalis acquisition has cleared regulatory review. Personalis shareholders are scheduled to vote on it November 30. Management discussed the quarter on an 8:45 a.m. ET call Monday.
