Arch Capital Has About $3.6 Billion Available For Buybacks After Expanding Its Program

Arch Capital Group, which provides insurance, reinsurance and mortgage insurance worldwide, increased its buyback authorization by $3.0 billion Thursday, according to an SEC filing. Including the increase and recent repurchases, approximately $3.6 billion remained available under the program.

Permission To Buy, Not A Schedule

The expanded authorization gives Arch room to repurchase shares through purchases on the open market or deals negotiated privately. The company says market conditions, along with corporate and regulatory considerations, will determine how much it buys and when.

The approximately $3.6 billion is the amount available under the program as of Thursday, rather than money already spent on shares. The increase applies to Arch's existing repurchase program.

Arch shares fell about 3% to $107.67 in Friday trading.

Specialty Insurance Across Three Businesses

Arch operates through subsidiaries and focuses on specialty lines, with underwriting divided among insurance, reinsurance and mortgage insurance. Reinsurance covers a portion of the risks that other insurers take on.

Independent retail and wholesale brokers are the main sales route for Arch's insurance products. Its reinsurance business also uses brokers, while some coverage for individual risks is sold directly to insurers.

The mortgage business serves lenders and mortgage originators across the U.S., Europe, the U.K. and Australia. It also participates in arrangements that share credit risk with government-sponsored mortgage enterprises.

The Bermuda company had about $26.9 billion in capital at December 31, 2025, and wrote $16.5 billion in net premiums for 2025.

Preferred Holders Get Declared Dividends

Arch's board also declared $4,496,250 for Series F preferred holders and $5,687,500 for Series G on Thursday. The payments cover the dividend period from September 30 through December 30, 2026.

For the outstanding 13,200,000 Series F depositary shares, the dividend is $0.340625 per depositary share. For the 20,000,000 outstanding Series G depositary shares, it is $0.284375 each. These depositary shares represent fractional interests in the underlying preferred shares.

The preferred dividends are payable December 31, 2026, subject to funds legally available under Bermuda law and any contrary determination by the board or its executive committee.
