Jamieson Greer Urges China To Deliver On Promises For Farm Purchases And Minerals
The administration says it will monitor compliance with China's existing trade commitments.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer pressed China on Friday to carry out promises involving agricultural purchases, rare earths and other critical minerals, according to a release from his office. The administration says it will keep monitoring China's compliance with those commitments.
Farm Purchases And Minerals In Focus
Greer's message concerned commitments China had already made: he called for concrete steps to implement them fully. Agricultural buying and rare earths were particular priorities, alongside other critical minerals.
The discussion took place in a Friday-morning videoconference. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent joined Greer in speaking with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng about trade and economic relations between the countries.
Compliance Is The Administration's Test
The trade representative's office said the Trump administration would monitor compliance as it pursued its stated goal of balanced trade with China.
The office described American farmers, ranchers, manufacturers and workers as the intended beneficiaries of that policy.
