Stellantis, the automaker behind Jeep, Ram, Peugeot and Fiat, saw its shares climb 14.25% to $4.73 in Wednesday trading, as of 10:31 a.m. ET, adding $1.7 billion in market value. The jump came on the day it reported a narrower third-quarter loss and reaffirmed its 2026 guidance.

Profit up, cash still burning

Adjusted operating income came to €256 million, up from €90 million a year earlier. Net revenues rose 1% to €37.6 billion.

Industrial free cash flow was still negative €4.0 billion in the quarter, though €0.3 billion better than a year earlier, the company reported. It also reaffirmed a target of positive free cash flow in 2027.

CEO Antonio Filosa said on the earnings call that the company is "very confident" in reaffirming its 2026 guidance, which includes positive free cash flow in 2027. Management also said cost savings should exceed targets.

A battered stock gets a bounce

The stock was on pace for its third straight daily gain and its biggest one-day gain in at least 275 trading sessions. Even so, shares were down about 62% year to date as of Tuesday's close, while the S&P 500 was up about 13% over the same span.

Earlier this month the shares fell to their lowest level since the group was formed in 2021, after two years of sliding sales and profitability and EV-related impairments of over €22 billion announced in February. In May, Filosa unveiled a turnaround plan promising new models and cost cuts, and investors have been waiting for proof it is working.

The €6 billion savings target

The company's Value Creation Program targets a run-rate cost-efficiency of €6 billion, and Stellantis said it remains on track to implement at least 40% of it by year-end.

Stellantis will present a new business plan for its Maserati luxury brand on December 10.
