Stellantis CEO Says Ram Sport Truck Sold Out In 24 Hours, Leans On Launches For 2027

Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said on the automaker's third-quarter earnings call Wednesday that the initial allocation of Ram's new sport truck sold out within 24 hours of orders opening, and he made new products a pillar of the plan to turn free cash flow positive in 2027. He called the truck "a big profitability builder for us."

Launches as the profit engine

Filosa said the Ram 1500 light-duty pickup grew 73% year over year in the U.S., and that Ram was the fastest-growing brand in North America in the quarter and year to date. The sport truck is due before the end of this year.

Among 2027 launches, he said the Ram ProMaster City will be the only mid-size commercial van in the U.S. for at least two or three years, because the company knows by intelligence that competitors will react in that window. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer Rev, he said, will be the first and only large SUV with range-extended hybrid technology.

The next Jeep Grand Cherokee, Gladiator and Wrangler cost less than current models, he said, and arrive in the second half of 2027 alongside a heavily renewed Dodge Durango. He also said the North American market is shifting toward vehicles priced below $40,000, and that two new Chryslers will arrive by the end of 2027.

A soft quarter, cost cuts working

Stellantis, the maker of Jeep, Ram, Peugeot and Fiat, reported third-quarter net revenue of 37.6 billion euros, up 1%, with adjusted operating income margin at 0.7%, up 50 basis points (half a percentage point). Industrial free cash flow was negative, which Chief Financial Officer Joao Laranjo attributed to seasonal working capital. Industrial costs improved by 828 million euros year over year, the biggest driver, helped by early savings from its Value Creation Program.

Filosa said the company expects to exceed its 2.4 billion euro savings milestone entering 2027 and its 6 billion euro run-rate target by 2028. Laranjo said savings should reach the mid-hundreds of millions of euros in the fourth quarter.

Guidance and the 2027 bridge

The company reaffirmed its 2026 guidance and its expectation of positive industrial free cash flow in 2027. Laranjo said guidance includes about $1 billion of net tariff costs, and that memory chip costs are a rising pressure. He expects U.S. dealer inventory of 320,000 to 350,000 units at year end, versus about 368,000 at the end of September.

Analysts pressed for a detailed 2027 bridge; Filosa said more would come on the next earnings call. Stellantis will present a new Maserati business plan on December 10.

Filosa's answer on how 2027 adds up was brief: "stay tuned" for the next call.
