Beta Bionics Drops Its 2028 Cash-Runway Date After $161.3 Million Stock Sale
The iLet pump maker's new 10-Q promises cash only "for the foreseeable future" while a securities class action proceeds.
Beta Bionics, which makes the iLet automated insulin pump, no longer tells investors how long its money will last. Its third-quarter 10-Q, filed Tuesday, says cash will fund operations "for the foreseeable future," where the second-quarter filing named the first half of 2028.
A runway with the date removed
The change arrives weeks after the company completed a September follow-on stock offering. That offering brought in net proceeds of about $161.3 million, and the company held $373.6 million in cash and investments at September 30, 2026, up from $225.2 million at June 30, 2026.
The financing language also narrowed. Where the earlier 10-Q also left room for "equity or debt financing," the new one says only: "We expect to finance our operations through product revenue." Yet the risk-factor caveat remains: the estimate could be wrong, and cash could be used up sooner.
The burn is rising. Third-quarter operating expenses were $46.9 million, with sales and marketing at $25.1 million, and the loss from operations was $26.6 million. Net cash used in operations for the first nine months was $50.7 million, against $42.3 million a year earlier.
Growth, with a margin dip
Beta Bionics sells the iLet, which uses adaptive algorithms to decide and deliver all of a user's insulin doses. The device is its only product and source of revenue. Net sales rose 30% to $35.5 million in the quarter, and the pharmacy-benefit channel was 38% of sales.
Gross margin slipped to 57.3% from about 59% in the second quarter, which the company blamed on product mix in its durable-medical-equipment channel.
Mint arrives sooner, with a caveat
The company now expects the full launch of Mint, its patch pump cleared by the FDA in September, in the first quarter of 2027. The second-quarter filing said the end of the second quarter. A new risk factor warns that "This timeline has changed before, and we may not meet it."
In its earnings release, the company said new iLet users waiting for Mint could defer up to $8.5 million of revenue in the fourth quarter of 2026. It narrowed 2026 revenue guidance to about $124 million to $126 million, from $121 million to $126 million.
In October, after talks with the FDA, it withdrew its 510(k) application for 3D Intelligence, its next-generation dosing algorithm, and intends to resubmit it in mid-fourth quarter of 2026.
A class action in the background
In September, a purported stockholder filed Holtzman v. Beta Bionics in federal court in Central California. It alleges misstatements about the safety, efficacy and commercial success of the iLet. The company intends to defend vigorously.
The lead-plaintiff deadline in the case is November 3, according to law-firm notices.
The next dated item is November 3, the lead-plaintiff deadline in the class action.
