Truist's Consumer Banking Chief Dontá Wilson To Leave December 31 As Bank Hires Ex-BofA Vice Chair Pick
Truist is bringing in D. Steve Boland as vice chair and Jeff Warner from PNC, and naming interim co-heads for its wealth unit.
Truist Financial said Friday that Dontá L. Wilson, its chief consumer and small business banking officer, will leave the bank effective December 31, 2026, according to an 8-K filing. The bank paired the news with a reshuffle: D. Steve Boland joins as vice chair, and Jeff Warner joins as chief small business banking officer.
Who is in, who is out
Boland retired from Bank of America in 2025, where he was chief administrative officer and, before that, president of Retail Banking, according to the press release. Truist says he brings more than three decades of financial services experience and will work across the company on its highest-priority initiatives.
Warner comes from PNC Financial Services Group, where he spent more than 25 years and most recently was head of small business.
Shimna Sameer, previously announced as the hire to lead Truist Wealth, becomes chief consumer banking officer instead. She spent more than 20 years in consumer banking, wealth management and private banking roles at Bank of America, and will focus on growing core deposits and deepening primary banking relationships.
Boland, Sameer and Warner will each report to CEO Mike Lyons.
Wealth gets interim leaders
Jeff Dunn, head of Truist Private Banking, Specialty Wealth & Institutional, and Bryan Cram, head of Truist Wealth Brokerage, will act as co-heads of Truist Wealth on an interim basis. They report to Chief Wholesale Banking Officer Kristin Lesher.
What the filing says about Wilson
The 8-K says Wilson is entitled to the benefits for an involuntary separation not for cause, as described in the proxy statement for the 2026 annual meeting. That is subject to his signing a release of claims and not revoking it, and to his compliance with restrictive covenants.
The press release thanks him for his leadership and for how he positioned the business. Lyons said the bank has "all the ingredients to become one of the top-performing banks in the country," and that the appointments will supply "the leadership depth, organization structure and accountability to execute with discipline."
TFC shares closed at $46.57 on Thursday, up 2.19% for that session, before the Friday announcement.
Wilson's exit takes effect December 31, 2026; until a permanent head is named, Dunn and Cram share leadership of Truist Wealth.
