Sidus Space Names Hassan Baqar, Who Has Been CFO Of Nine SPACs, To Its Board

Sidus Space, which builds satellites and space computing hardware, added accountant Hassan R. Baqar to its board and Audit Committee, effective Wednesday, the company said in an 8-K filed Thursday. Baqar has served as chief financial officer or director of nine special purpose acquisition companies, the blank-check shells that merge with private firms to take them public.

A SPAC veteran joins the audit table

Baqar will serve until the 2027 annual meeting of stockholders, or until a successor is elected and qualified, according to the filing. He is a certified public accountant with an MBA from Northeastern Illinois University.

The company's press release says he has more than 25 years of experience across financial services, corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, merchant banking and capital markets. He has held CFO, officer or director roles at public and private companies in the United States, Canada and the Cayman Islands.

The nine SPACs include completed business combinations with OppFi, Hagerty, Limbach Holdings, Saltire Capital, Boxabl and Greenland Energy.

Current roles and past CFO posts

Baqar is founder and managing member of Sequoia Financial LLC and CEO of B-SCADA Inc. He is also CFO of FG Imperii Acquisition Corp., a director of Greenland Energy Company, and director of capital markets at Saltire Capital.

Earlier, he was CFO of Saltire Capital from 2024 to 2025, of FG Financial Group (now FG Communities Holdings) from 2021 to 2024, and of United Insurance Holdings from 2011 to 2012. He was vice president, finance at Kingsway Financial Services from 2010 to 2019, and began his career at Lumbermens Mutual Casualty Company (Kemper Insurance).

What the company says it wants from him

Sidus, based on Florida's Space Coast, makes satellites including its LizzieSat platform, along with computing systems and precision parts for space and defense customers. Baqar will bring CFO and accounting experience to oversight of financial reporting and internal controls, the company said.

Founder, CEO and Chairman Carol Craig said Baqar has spent his career "on the issuer's side of public company finance." She said that, together with Larry Swets as Audit Committee Chair, it gives the board "strong financial oversight as the Company grows."

Baqar said the committee's job is "to make sure investors can rely on what the Company reports."

Baqar's seat comes up for stockholder election at the 2027 annual meeting.
