Fluence Stock Plunges 8%, Wiping Out $63 Million, After CEO And CFO Are Replaced

Fluence Energy, which sells battery-based storage systems and software for power grids, fell 7.69% to $5.28 in Monday trading, as of 2:20 p.m. ET, erasing $63 million in market value. The drop came after the company said in an 8-K that CEO Julian Nebreda departed on October 30 and that it replaced its CEO and CFO with interim leaders.

Interim leaders and a manufacturing committee

Axel Meier, a former Siemens executive and board director, steps in as CEO at a $1,015,000 base salary. Ricardo Roizen of AES covers finance. The company has begun searching for permanent successors.

A new board committee will oversee manufacturing and operations. Nebreda, Pasha and John Zahurancik can claim severance.

The decline was on pace to be the stock's third straight daily drop and its biggest one-day fall since October 16.

Production delays and a 71% slide

Fluence's third-quarter results showed revenue of $649.8 million, which the company called weaker than expected because of production delays at new contract manufacturing facilities. It posted a net loss of $44.3 million, against net income of about $6.9 million a year earlier.

Nebreda said in that earnings release that production had been "behind our expectation for this year" and that the company had taken steps to reach targeted levels early in fiscal 2027.

Shares were down about 71% for the year as of Friday's close, against a gain of about 11% for the S&P 500, and had fallen 26% in the prior month.

Record backlog, thin liquidity cushion

Demand is not the problem the release describes. Backlog stood at about $6.4 billion as of June 30, the highest in company history, and order intake topped $1.44 billion for the quarter, nearly triple the prior-year quarter's $508.8 million.

As of September 30, 2025, Fluence had 6.8 gigawatts deployed and 9.1 gigawatts of contracted backlog across 25 countries. Its two largest customers made up about 41% of fiscal 2025 revenue.
