Fluence Energy CEO And CFO Depart; Siemens Veteran Axel Meier Steps In As Interim Chief
A new board committee will oversee manufacturing as Fluence searches for permanent leaders and sets fiscal 2026 results for November 23.
Fluence Energy, which sells grid-scale battery storage systems and the software that runs them, said CEO Julian Nebreda and CFO Ahmed Pasha departed on October 30, according to an 8-K filed Monday. Board member Axel Meier, a former Siemens finance chief, is interim CEO, and the company has begun searches for permanent replacements.
Two interim leaders from major shareholders
Nebreda also resigned from the board, and the filing says that did not result from any disagreement with the company over operations, policies or practices. Chief Customer Success Officer John Zahurancik left the same day. Nebreda, Pasha and Zahurancik will each be eligible for severance under the company's Executive Severance Plan.
Meier, 63, has sat on the board since January 2020. He was Chief Financial Officer of Siemens Smart Infrastructure from April 2019 until June 2026 and had been a director designee of Siemens Industry, an indirect subsidiary of Siemens AG. He resigned that designation on November 1 and was re-appointed as a director effective November 2. His offer letter sets a base salary of $1,015,000 and a discretionary cash bonus for completing the transition and placing a permanent CEO. As an interim, he is excluded from the severance plan.
Interim CFO Ricardo Roizen, 47, was CFO of AES Andes and head of international treasury and growth at AES. He is seconded from AES Andes for up to 90 days or longer as mutually agreed, and AES Andes keeps paying his salary. The secondment ends automatically when a permanent CFO is named.
Ties to shareholders who also buy Fluence products
The filing notes that Siemens AG and AES affiliates have bought Fluence's storage products and services and are expected to keep doing so. Siemens affiliates also supply Fluence with goods and services. Fluence, for its part, provides consulting to AES. The press release says the operational transformation is supported by major shareholders Siemens AG and The AES Corporation.
Fluence, which as of September 30, 2025 had 6.8 gigawatts of storage deployed across 25 countries, said it is working to improve production, execution and financial discipline. Chairman Herman Bulls said the board is taking "decisive action to strengthen leadership, sharpen accountability, and support Fluence's long-term success." The company cited a record backlog of $6.4 billion from its fiscal third-quarter 2026 results.
A new oversight committee and a reshaped team
The board created a Manufacturing and Operations Oversight Committee chaired by Stephan May, with Stephen Coughlin and Elizabeth Fessenden as members. Chief Operating Officer Bernerd Da Santos will lead the operational transformation. Marco Boos, who has held senior roles at Proenergy, Weatherford, ABB and Siemens, becomes chief customer success officer effective November 15, succeeding Zahurancik.
The company credits Meier with 23 consecutive quarters of year-over-year profit margin expansion at Siemens Smart Infrastructure.
Fluence will report fiscal 2026 results after the close on Monday, November 23, with a call at 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, November 24; fiscal 2027 guidance will come later.
