Ballard Opens Pre-Orders For An 80kW Hydrogen Generator A Panel Van Can Tow
The HPU Agile-H, a diesel alternative from newly acquired GeoPura, is set to start deliveries in the first quarter of 2027.
Ballard Power Systems, the hydrogen fuel cell company, said on Wednesday that GeoPura, the business it recently bought, has launched a towable hydrogen generator that puts out 80kW of continuous power. Pre-orders for the HPU Agile-H are open in the UK, Europe and North America, with deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
A diesel alternative on wheels
The HPU Agile-H pairs a Ballard hydrogen fuel cell with integrated battery storage. The battery responds instantly to changing demand, the company said, which suits jobs from construction sites to live broadcasting.
GeoPura designed the unit and Siemens Energy manufactures it. A suitable SUV or large panel van can tow it, one technician can set it up in under 20 minutes, and several units can be linked to meet larger loads.
The company pitches it at lower loads, short-term projects, remote locations and sites with limited grid access. It produces no carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides or particulate emissions at the point of use, and runs quietly, Ballard said.
Fuel, monitoring and the 50kW-to-50MW range
Ballard supplies the green hydrogen from its production facilities and its network of storage and delivery assets, and monitors and controls the units remotely. Customers can own the unit and move it between sites.
President Andrew Cunningham said customers want flexibility: "We supply the hydrogen and provide the teams to deploy and support the units, making the transition straightforward."
The company said the launch broadens its range to power needs from 50kW to 50MW, alongside what it called strong demand for multi-megawatt hydrogen power for data centres, grid augmentation and critical industrial operations.
Target markets and the order window
Ballard lists construction, events, film and TV, broadcasting, defence, emergency response and critical national infrastructure as uses. Examples include site compounds, welfare cabins, lighting, EV charging and emergency power.
Ballard shares carried a market value of $544 million at Wednesday's morning check. Pricing and pre-orders are handled through GeoPura's website.
Deliveries of the HPU Agile-H are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
