Ballard's GeoPura Ran Hydrogen Power At Boomtown, Edinburgh Summer Sessions And The Solheim Cup

GeoPura, the UK hydrogen power provider Ballard Power Systems recently acquired, supplied power to festivals, concerts and golf tournaments this summer, Ballard said in a Wednesday release furnished to the SEC. The company pointed to the US and Canada as the next markets for the model.

What the release says

GeoPura's HPU2 hydrogen power units supplied the 20,000-capacity HYDRO stage at Boomtown through the build and the live festival in 2026. They had also powered that stage in 2025. The stage hosted sets from Skrillex, Four Tet and Groove Armada.

At Edinburgh Summer Sessions, the units supplied main-stage power and site infrastructure. Earlier deployments included American Express presents BST Hyde Park, LIDO Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival.

In sport, the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands, GeoPura's first continental European golf deployment, ran on hydrogen power. The release says that power came without CO₂, nitrogen oxides or particulate emissions at the point of use. Hydrogen also powered infrastructure at the Genesis Scottish Open.

The company described the summer as one with more repeat deployments, larger festival commitments and deeper integration into event power planning.

The service model and the North America pitch

Ballard sells the offering as Energy-as-a-Service: equipment, hydrogen supply, transport, on-site storage and operational support in one managed package. GeoPura also works in film, television and live broadcasting.

Ballard President Andrew Cunningham said organisers are "returning for subsequent seasons and increasing the scale of their deployments." He cited Boomtown's move from HYDRO to HYDRO XL as an example.

Chief Executive Officer Marty Neese said the US and Canada offer "exciting potential," from festivals and sporting events to film and television. He said the company can build on its UK experience while "selectively expanding across Europe and North America."

What it changes

The release says GeoPura gives the combined business an operating model for expansion into the US, Canada, Europe and wider international markets. Neese said combining GeoPura's service with Ballard's technology creates chances to capture value across equipment, fuel and operations.

Ballard also points to longer-duration uses in construction, grid support and critical power, where customers need more electricity than existing connections can deliver. That sits alongside its fuel cell engines for heavy-duty mobility such as bus, rail and marine.

The release gives no financial figures for the events business. Ballard shares closed at $1.51 on Tuesday, before the release, according to market data.

Neese said the same capabilities also serve construction, infrastructure and other customers facing grid constraints.
