Vanguard Unit Reports 5.13% Stake In Take-Two Ahead Of GTA VI Launch

Vanguard Portfolio Management, an investment adviser in the Vanguard group, holds 9,601,771 shares of Take-Two Interactive Software, or 5.13% of the common stock, according to a passive-ownership Schedule 13G filed Friday. The position is as of September 30.

A passive stake, by the filer's own account

The 5.13% is measured under SEC Rule 13d-3, which counts shares the holder could acquire within 60 days. Vanguard Portfolio Management has sole voting power over 46,943 shares and shared voting power over none.

The filer certifies the shares were acquired and are held in the ordinary course of business, not to change or influence control of Take-Two. It classifies itself as an investment adviser.

The figure includes holdings of affiliates Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Company and Vanguard Global Advisers, plus Vanguard funds, or parts of them, over which Vanguard Portfolio Management has dispositive power. The filing says no other single person's interest in the securities exceeds 5%.

A game maker nine days from GTA VI

Take-Two develops and publishes video games for console, mobile and PC. Its labels include Rockstar Games, maker of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, 2K, which publishes NBA 2K, BioShock, Borderlands and Civilization, and Zynga, which makes free-to-play mobile games.

Shares traded at $190.91 in Friday trading, down 1.28% from the prior close of $193.39, for a market value of $36.2 billion. According to Simply Wall St, the stock has slipped about 20% this year.

Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for November 19, and Bank of America recommends investors hold a long position through the release.

Take-Two reports fiscal second-quarter earnings on November 9, ten days before the November 19 launch; expectations call for lower quarterly earnings per share and revenue.
