TPG Books Just $7 Million Of Realized Carry On $6.6 Billion Of Exits, Lifts Fundraising Goal Above $55 Billion
CFO Axel Andre said exit proceeds mostly returned cost and covered unrealized losses, mainly in TPG Capital 8, as TPG raised its 2026 fundraising outlook.
TPG, the alternative asset manager, produced only $7 million of realized performance allocations on $6.6 billion of third-quarter realizations, CFO Axel Andre told analysts on the company's earnings call Thursday. He also raised the firm's 2026 fundraising guidance to more than $55 billion.
Where the exit proceeds went
Pressed by an analyst from BNP Paribas on the near-absence of performance fees, Andre said the proceeds were largely used to return cost on realized deals and to cover unrealized losses, mainly in TPG Capital 8. He tied those losses to market volatility in software companies facing "greater AI-related defensive risk."
The lower realized carry itself, Andre said in his prepared remarks, was a result of fund mix, because private equity sales mainly returned cost to clients. Realizations for the first nine months reached $20.4 billion, up 10% from a year earlier, he said.
Net accrued carry, the performance income booked but not yet paid, rose to a record $1.5 billion. Outside the troubled software names, Andre said, portfolio fundamentals remain strong, and bookings across the TPG Capital and Growth software portfolio grew more than 25% in the quarter. He expects realized performance allocations to pick up in the fourth quarter and into 2027.
Fundraising outlook moves up
TPG raised more than $15 billion in the quarter and nearly $42 billion so far this year. Andre said it now expects more than $55 billion for 2026, helped in part by closes pulled forward from amounts budgeted for 2027. The firm had earlier targeted more than $50 billion.
An analyst from BMO Capital Markets asked whether that makes 2027 harder. CEO Jon Winkelried said TPG will not guide on next year, noting that diversification has lifted its annual fundraising cadence to roughly $45 billion to $60 billion, from $25 billion to $40 billion in the 2020 to 2023 cycle.
TPG managed $303.0 billion in assets at the end of 2025, according to its annual report. It ended September with $346 billion, up 21% from a year earlier, and a record $86 billion of dry powder.
Margins and the next catalysts
The fee-related margin was 50% in the quarter, Andre said, helped by $62 million of catch-up fees; without them it would have been about 47%. He raised full-year margin guidance to about 48%.
Winkelried said five signed deals across private equity and real estate are waiting to close. TPG shares were up about 6.5% at $47.50 in Thursday trading and are down about 30% this year, according to Zacks.
The company declared a 55-cent dividend payable November 23 to holders of record on November 9.
