Moderna Stock Soars 9.26% After Raising Sales Outlook — Adding $8.9 Billion In Market Value

Moderna, which develops mRNA medicines and vaccines, saw its shares soar 9.26% to $263.81 in Friday trading, as of 11:46 AM ET, adding $8.9 billion in market value. The advance followed a higher sales outlook: the company now expects 2026 revenue growth of 15% to 25%, above its previous ceiling of 10%.

Stronger Sales, Lower Costs

Moderna returned to profitability in the third quarter of 2026, earning $162 million against a $200 million loss a year earlier. Revenue reached $1.3 billion, up 29% year over year, according to its Friday earnings release.

The company credited overseas COVID vaccine sales through long-term government partnerships for the higher outlook. Every point in the revised growth range exceeds the old forecast's upper limit.

Moderna Chief Executive Stéphane Bancel told CNBC in a Friday interview that both sides of the business were improving: "It's the sales that are stronger and the costs that are also lower".

A Rally Already Ahead Of The Market

Moderna shares had gained 719% year to date through Thursday's close, compared with an 8% advance for the S&P 500. The stock had also risen 19% over the previous month through Thursday's close.

Friday's move put Moderna on pace for its second gain of 7% or more this month in Friday trading, as of 11:46 AM ET. Its total market value stood at $105.32 billion in Friday trading, as of 11:46 AM ET.

The rally contrasts with the company's earlier financial position. For the quarter ended in June, Moderna reported a $782 million loss on revenue of $145 million.

COVID Vaccines Anchor The Business

COVID vaccines accounted for much of Moderna's $1.9 billion in revenue in 2025. Its commercial products are Spikevax and mNEXSPIKE for COVID, and mRESVIA for respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.

Moderna's technology uses mRNA, the instructions cells follow to make proteins. Its pipeline includes 35 vaccine and therapeutic programs, with six in late-stage development, across infectious diseases, cancer and rare diseases.

The company works with Merck on an individualized cancer therapy and with Recordati on a rare disease treatment. Its global manufacturing network includes facilities it built and manages in the UK, Canada and Australia.

Moderna has scheduled an analyst day for Thursday.
