FedEx named AutoZone finance chief Jamere Jackson its next chief financial officer, effective November 30, replacing interim CFO Claude Russ, who has held the job since June 1. Jackson, 57, will receive a $2 million signing bonus and a $5 million special stock award, according to an 8-K filed Monday.

Pay package for the new CFO

Jackson's base salary will be $1,000,000. The $2,000,000 signing bonus is paid in two installments, in November 2026 and November 2027, and he must repay it on a prorated basis if he resigns before the anniversary of his start date.

A one-time restricted stock award with a grant date fair value of $5,000,000 vests ratably over three years. FedEx says it is meant to compensate him for the AutoZone equity awards he forfeits.

He also gets a restricted stock unit award valued at $766,000 and stock options valued at $191,500, both vesting ratably over three years. His target annual bonus for transition year 2026 is 120% of eligible earnings paid during that period, and he will take part in the FedEx Corporation Executive Severance Plan.

A CFO resume across four companies

FedEx, which runs a global air and ground express network and employs about 452,000 people as of May 31, 2026, reports annual revenue of $86 billion, the company said in its press release.

Jackson has been AutoZone's CFO since January 1, 2021. Before that he was CFO of Hertz Global Holdings from 2018 to 2020 and of Nielsen Holdings from 2014 to 2018, after leadership roles at General Electric. He sits on the board of Eli Lilly, where he chairs the audit committee.

FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam said Jackson has "proven his ability to balance strategic investments in growth with an unwavering focus on profitability, cash generation, and capital allocation."

AutoZone said in a press release that Jackson's resignation takes effect November 25 and that it has begun an external search for his successor.

Jackson starts at FedEx on November 30, five days after his AutoZone resignation takes effect.
