Entergy Third-Quarter Earnings Climb To $940 Million As Data Centers And Heat Lift Sales

Entergy, the New Orleans utility that serves customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, earned $940 million, or $1.98 a share, in the third quarter, up from $694 million, or $1.53, a year earlier. The company reported Monday that the figure was the same on an as-reported and adjusted basis, and it narrowed its 2026 adjusted earnings guidance to $4.35 to $4.45 a share.

Hot weather and heavier industrial use

Weather added an estimated $116 million after tax, or $0.24 a share, to the quarter, against $28 million, or $0.06, in the prior-year period, the company said.

Weather-adjusted retail sales rose 4.5%. Industrial sales grew 4.9%, driven by higher sales to data center and primary metals customers, according to the release. Residential sales grew 6.1% on a weather-adjusted basis and commercial sales 1.9%.

The Utility segment earned $1,079 million, or $2.28 a share, compared with $810 million, or $1.79, a year earlier. Higher retail volume, regulatory actions, returns on construction projects and higher other income were partly offset by higher interest expense, other operating and maintenance costs, and depreciation. Parent & Other lost $139 million, or 29 cents a share, versus a $117 million loss, with higher interest expense the driver.

What Entergy does and how the year looks

Entergy generates, transmits and distributes electricity, serving more than 3 million customers through its operating companies in four states, and has about 12,000 employees. Nearly all of its business is the regulated Utility segment.

For the first nine months, adjusted earnings were $1,821 million, or $3.89 a share, compared with $1,522 million, or $3.40, a year earlier. Per-share results reflect a larger share count, from equity forwards settled in 2025 and 2026.

Cash, debt and the dividend

Cash and cash equivalents stood at $4.2 billion on Sept. 30, compared with $1.5 billion a year earlier. Total debt was $34,936 million, up from $30,563 million, and junior subordinated debentures reached $4,000 million from $1,200 million.

Chair and CEO Drew Marsh said the company has "clear line of sight to deliver on our near- and long-term objectives." The board declared a quarterly dividend of 68 cents a share, a six percent increase.

Management holds an earnings call at 10:00 a.m. Central Time on Monday.

Business highlights in the release included the Louisiana regulator's approval of a $1.2 billion Babel to Webre transmission project and an expanded service agreement between Entergy Arkansas and Google.
