Commerce Bancshares Authorizes Buyback Of Up To 7.5 Million Shares

Commerce Bancshares, the holding company for Commerce Bank, said its board approved a repurchase program covering up to 7,500,000 shares of its common stock, according to an 8-K and a press release dated Tuesday.

A combined cap, not an add-on

The 7,500,000-share ceiling counts the amount still unused from the prior authorization on April 24, 2026. The old remainder is folded into the new total rather than stacked on top of it.

The company's 8-K lists October 30, 2026 as the date of the earliest event reported.

A bank with $32.9 billion in assets

Commerce Bancshares owns Commerce Bank, which provides retail, mortgage, corporate, investment, trust and asset management services to individuals, businesses and municipalities. At December 31, 2025, it had consolidated assets of $32.9 billion, loans of $17.8 billion and deposits of $25.6 billion.

Its 140 branch facilities sit mainly in Missouri, Kansas and central Illinois, with St. Louis and Kansas City its two largest markets.

How the stock traded

CBSH shares traded at $55.97 in Tuesday trading as of 1:46 p.m. ET, up 0.30% from the prior close of $55.80.

The cap is set at 7,500,000 shares in total, with the April 24 remainder counted inside it.
