Boston Scientific Sales Rise Just 1.5% In Third Quarter, And It Guides To A Fourth-Quarter Drop

Boston Scientific, which makes medical devices used to treat and diagnose disease, said Wednesday that third-quarter net sales grew only 1.5% to $5.138 billion, while profit per share fell. The company also forecast that fourth-quarter sales will decline.

Profit slips as sales stall

The 1.5% growth was the same on a reported, operational and organic basis, the company said in its 8-K earnings release. Net income attributable to common stockholders under standard accounting was $582 million, or $0.40 per share, against $755 million, or $0.51, a year earlier.

Adjusted EPS, which strips out certain charges, was $0.73 versus $0.75 a year ago. Litigation-related charges were $81 million in the quarter and restructuring net charges were $63 million; neither appeared in the year-earlier quarter's operating expenses at that size.

CEO Mike Mahoney, who is also chairman, said "This has been a challenging year for Boston Scientific" and credited global teams for working "with urgency and resilience to restore operations" after the cybersecurity incident the company first reported on August 26, 2026.

Neuromodulation up 13.1%, urology down

By segment, Cardiovascular sales rose 1.9% to $3.406 billion and MedSurg rose 0.6% to $1.733 billion. Within MedSurg, Neuromodulation climbed 13.1% on a reported basis, while Urology fell 3.2% and Endoscopy fell 0.8%.

Regionally, U.S. sales edged up 0.5%. Europe, the Middle East and Africa rose 4.4% reported, and Latin America and Canada jumped 16.0% reported, the fastest of any region. Asia-Pacific slid 0.6%.

The company also cited FDA 510(k) clearances for kidney stone and peripheral artery disease products, and the start of enrollment in a trial of its next-generation WATCHMAN Elite stroke-prevention implant.

A forecast for shrinking sales

Boston Scientific expects fourth-quarter net sales to fall by approximately 3.0% to 1.0% on a reported and organic basis, with adjusted EPS of $0.77 to $0.79. For the full year it now estimates adjusted EPS of $3.16 to $3.18, with net sales growth of approximately 4.25% reported and approximately 3.75% organic.

Management discusses the results with analysts on a call Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. ET.

Through nine months, adjusted EPS stands at $2.39 against $2.26 a year earlier, and the fourth-quarter range of $0.77 to $0.79 is what the full-year guidance now rests on.
