Biodesix Parts Ways With Chief Commercial Officer Kieran O’Kane, Who Qualifies For Separation Benefits

Biodesix, which sells blood-based lung-disease tests and testing services for drug and diagnostics developers, ended chief commercial officer Kieran O’Kane’s employment Monday. The departure makes him eligible for benefits under his existing executive agreement, the company said in an SEC filing made public Thursday.

An Agreed Exit With Severance Eligibility

Biodesix and O’Kane agreed Monday to end his employment effective that day. His exit qualifies for separation benefits under the terms of the agreement already in place, rather than a newly announced pay arrangement.

The benefits are governed by his existing executive agreement, which covers severance and changes in company control. Biodesix described that agreement in its 2026 annual proxy filing, submitted to the SEC on April 9. Eligibility for the benefits rests on his termination qualifying under the agreement’s terms.

BDSX shares plunged about 41% to $11.66 in Friday trading. The employment agreement took effect Monday, and the company’s public account of the departure followed Thursday; those events preceded Friday’s share-price decline.

Lung Tests Anchor The Business

Biodesix’s commercial business has two distinct customer groups: healthcare providers using its lung tests and companies seeking help with drug and diagnostic development. Lung Diagnostic Testing generated $79.2 million in revenue in 2025, with 62,600 tests delivered, according to the company’s annual report.

The healthcare-provider offering includes five tests. Two evaluate whether lung nodules pose a cancer risk; the other three help guide treatment once a patient has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Payment for the tests comes mainly from third-party payers, including Medicare and private insurers.

Development Services generated $9.3 million in 2025. That operation supplies testing and consulting to biopharmaceutical, life-sciences and diagnostics companies, and has been used by more than 65 industry clients and academic research partners.

Together, the businesses accounted for estimated total revenue of $88.5 million in 2025. The lung-testing operation supplied the larger share of that revenue.
