Atlas Energy Solutions Posts $45.1 Million Loss, Guides Fourth-Quarter EBITDA Of $40 Million To $50 Million

Atlas Energy Solutions, which produces sand for oil and gas wells and is building a power business, lost $45.1 million in the third quarter on revenue of $267.8 million, it said Monday. It guided to fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA of $40 million to $50 million.

A wider loss on lower revenue

Revenue fell from $293.2 million in the second quarter, and the net loss widened from $25.1 million. A year earlier the company lost $23.7 million on revenue of $259.6 million.

Adjusted EBITDA, a profit measure that strips out interest, taxes, depreciation and certain other costs, fell to $30.3 million from $50.8 million in the second quarter and $41.6 million a year earlier. Net cash from operations was $23.4 million, against a negative $553,000 in the second quarter.

Proppant sales volume was 5.4 million tons at an average price of about $16.93 per ton. CEO John Turner said the company made a "deliberate choice" to "hold the line on pricing rather than chase uneconomic bids," which he said reduced volumes as expected.

Sand and logistics slipped to a gross loss

By segment, Sand and Logistics posted a gross loss of $10.1 million, while Power earned a gross profit of $15.3 million on revenue of $32.6 million. Power rental revenue was $29.1 million.

Atlas, based in Austin, makes proppant, the sand used in well completion, and also provides logistics and distributed power, mainly in the Permian Basin. Its Power unit rents a fleet of natural gas-powered generators.

Bridge loan funds the data center push

Atlas announced two cost reimbursement agreements with a leading frontier AI lab, covering balance-of-plant equipment and an incremental 283 megawatts for two data center projects it is negotiating. After quarter end it completed a $424 million senior secured bridge facility provided by Goldman Sachs and Barclays.

Total liquidity was $116.7 million at September 30. The company estimated it at $499.4 million as of October 23, including $152.2 million of cash and $252.8 million of bridge availability designated for certain purchase obligations.

Turner said the commercial team has backfilled the lost sand volumes for the fourth quarter and has line of sight to more than 23 million allocated tons for 2027. Atlas expects sequential improvement in every business segment in the fourth quarter. Its first behind-the-meter power project, in Socorro, Texas, is on track to come online at the end of the first quarter of next year.

Atlas hosts its earnings call Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Eastern.
