Sunrun Lowers 2026 Cash Forecast To About $200 Million Despite $153.2 Million Quarterly Profit
The home solar company's Subscriber Additions fell 24% in the third quarter, and its subscriber-value forecast now sits at about $4.6 billion.
Sunrun, which designs, installs and maintains home solar and battery systems, cut its full-year 2026 forecast for Cash Generation to about $200 million, excluding equipment safe-harbor investments. The prior range was $200 million to $375 million, and the cut came with a third-quarter profit of $153.2 million attributable to common stockholders, the company said Wednesday.
A lower floor on cash and value
Cash Generation is a non-standard measure of cash raised from financing partners set against the cost of signing customers. The new outlook leaves out investments in equipment safe harbor, a term for buying equipment early to lock in tax-credit eligibility.
Sunrun also trimmed its full-year Aggregate Subscriber Value forecast, the lifetime value of customers signed in a period, to about $4.6 billion. The prior guidance was $4.6 billion to $4.9 billion.
Third-quarter Cash Generation was $6 million, or $56 million excluding $50 million of net safe-harbor investments. Net cash from operating activities was $301 million, against a use of $122 million a year earlier. Chief Financial Officer Danny Abajian said he expects higher Cash Generation in the fourth quarter, leading to full-year Cash Generation of about $200 million.
Fewer subscribers, thinner value per head
Subscriber Additions fell 24% from a year earlier to 22,957. Customer Additions, which also include outright purchases, were 24,096, down from 32,833.
Net Subscriber Value per Subscriber Addition fell 28% to $9,462, from $13,205. Separately, the discount rate used in the value calculation rose to 8.4% from 7.3%. Aggregate Subscriber Value was $1.3 billion, down 20%.
CEO Mary Powell said the direct business returned to growth, with installations up 9% from a year earlier. The Storage Attachment Rate, the share of new customers adding a battery, hit a record 75%, up from 70%.
Profit helped by a sales transaction
Total revenue rose 52% to $1,099.5 million. Energy systems and product sales revenue climbed 134% to $546.0 million, which the company said was primarily due to a transaction entered into in the third quarter of 2025, under which certain systems for new customers are sold to a third party. Sunrun keeps the customer relationship. Customer agreements and incentives revenue rose 13% to $553.5 million.
Net income attributable to common stockholders was $153.2 million, or $0.56 per diluted share, up from $16.6 million a year earlier. Other income of $164.3 million, which includes an unrealized gain on derivatives, lifted pretax results.
Sunrun, which sells most systems through 20- or 25-year leases and power purchase agreements, said it contributed 430+ MW, or 58%, of a 745 MW power-plant dispatch event on October 6.
Contracted Net Earning Assets stood at $3.7 billion on September 30, including $1.1 billion in total cash.
