Semtech Will Invest In Dedicated SiGe Capacity At Tower Fabs In The U.S., Israel And Japan

Tower Semiconductor and Semtech announced an expanded multi-year agreement on Tuesday under which Semtech will invest in dedicated silicon germanium (SiGe) manufacturing capacity at Tower. The release, furnished to the SEC on Form 6-K, says the capacity supports Semtech's AI data center optical interconnect products and builds on a 20-year partnership.

What the release says

The reserved capacity spans Tower's fabs in the United States, Israel and Japan. The companies say that adds supply resilience and geographic diversification to Semtech's manufacturing strategy.

Semtech's signal integrity chips, including transimpedance amplifiers, modulator and laser drivers and linear equalizers, are built on Tower's SiGe process. The release says Semtech's 224 Gbps per Lane TIA Family for Linear Pluggable Optics won an Optical Component Innovation (Chip/Wafer) award at the European Conference on Optical Communication 2026.

Semtech President and CEO Hong Hou said the agreement "secures dedicated SiGe capacity across three regions" to grow in copper and optical interconnects, "from 800G and 1.6T today through 3.2T and beyond." Tower CEO Russell Ellwanger said the work on next-generation technologies is meant to leave both companies prepared for the market's move into those generations.

What it changes

For Semtech, the deal adds supply assurance on top of current production as demand for its SiGe-based products is expected to grow across more customer programs and end markets. The release does not give a dollar value for the investment or the amount of capacity.

Tower's footprint, as the release describes it: one operating facility in Israel, two in the U.S. and two in Japan. The Japanese sites are owned through Tower's 51% holdings in TPSCo. Tower also shares a 300mm facility in Agrate, Italy with STMicroelectronics.

Tower's stock closed at US$216.50 on Monday, before the announcement, for a market value of US$24.5 billion, according to market data.

The risks Semtech lists

Semtech's cautionary language names several. One is Tower's ability to install equipment and expand SiGe capacity at its fabs on the anticipated timeline, or at all. Another is that Semtech may not fully use the capacity reserved for it, or that its design wins may not turn into production orders.

The company also lists its reliance on Tower for SiGe manufacturing and the concentration of that work in a limited number of facilities, including in Israel.

Semtech's own risk language ties the plan to whether Tower installs equipment and expands SiGe capacity on the anticipated timeline.
