Opendoor Names Alpine Fox Founder Mike Alfred An Independent Director, Granting Him 45,268 Stock Units
Alfred, who also sits on the IREN and Bakkt boards, joins Opendoor's nominating committee for a term ending at the 2027 annual meeting.
Opendoor Technologies, which buys homes directly from sellers and resells them, added investor Mike Alfred to its board effective Thursday, with a grant of 45,268 restricted stock units, according to an 8-K. Alfred runs Alpine Fox LP, a private investment partnership that is also an Opendoor shareholder.
Independent seat, one-year term
The board approved the appointment on Wednesday, October 28. Alfred joins as a Class I director for a term that expires at the 2027 annual meeting of stockholders, and the board determined he is independent under Nasdaq listing standards.
He also joins the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. His pay matches that of other non-employee directors, and the 45,268 restricted stock units are a prorated annual award that vests in full on the date of the 2027 annual meeting, provided he is still serving.
The filing says no arrangement or understanding with any other person led to his selection, and no transaction involving him requires disclosure under the SEC's related-party rule.
Value equities, Bitcoin and data companies
Alfred is founder and managing partner of Alpine Fox LP, which he started in January 2023 and which focuses on value equities and Bitcoin. He has been on the board of IREN, an AI data center developer and Bitcoin miner, since October 2021, and on the board of Bakkt, a digital payments and financial infrastructure company, since September 2025.
His operating career ran through data businesses. He co-founded BrightScope and was its CEO from February 2008 until Strategic Insight bought it in October 2016, then served as a managing director and executive committee member there. From January 2018 until its sale to New York Digital Investment Group in November 2020, he was co-founder and CEO of Digital Assets Data.
He has advised the CEO of real estate technology company Amenify since July 2020, and sits on the boards of private companies Eaglebrook Advisors and Wealthie, a home equity management platform.
What Opendoor says it gains
Opendoor buys homes from sellers through its Cash Offer and Cash Plus Offer products and resells them, using AI-based pricing. In 2025 it sold over 11,700 homes and generated $4.4 billion in revenue, according to its annual report.
CEO Kaz Nejatian said in a press release that Alfred's "perspective as an operator, investor and public company director will be incredibly valuable" as Opendoor works to make buying and selling a home simple and certain.
Alfred's Class I term runs to the 2027 annual meeting of stockholders, the same date his stock units vest.
