Crane NXT Third-Quarter Sales Rise 11.7% On Acquisitions, But Organic Growth Is Just 1.1%
Profit fell 24.0% and the company trimmed its full-year sales growth forecast, while narrowing adjusted EPS guidance upward.
Crane NXT, which makes technology that secures, detects and authenticates products and payments, said third-quarter sales climbed 11.7% to $497.1 million, but organic sales, which exclude acquisitions and currency swings, grew only 1.1%. Net income fell 24.0% to $38.4 million, and the company cut its full-year sales growth outlook while lifting the low end of its adjusted earnings range, according to an 8-K filed Wednesday.
Acquisitions carried the quarter
Sales were $445.1 million a year earlier. Acquisitions added $50.0 million, all of it in the Detection and Traceability unit, while currency subtracted $2.9 million.
That unit's organic sales fell 5.3%, and its operating profit dropped 41.2% to $35.7 million. The Security and Authentication unit did better: sales rose 6.4% to $243.5 million, with organic growth of 7.2%, and operating profit climbed 17.3% to $46.1 million.
Net income was $0.66 per diluted share, against $0.87 a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share, which exclude items such as acquired-intangible amortization and restructuring costs, were $1.28, the same as last year.
Adjusted EBITDA, the company's adjusted measure of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, rose 3.9% to $127.2 million. Its margin slipped to 25.6% from 27.5%.
Guidance: sales down, EPS floor up
The company now expects full-year sales growth of about 14%, from a prior range of 15% to 17%. It sees Detection and Traceability growth in the high teens, from the low 20s, and Security and Authentication growth of about 11%.
Adjusted EPS guidance narrowed to $4.32 to $4.42, from $4.22 to $4.42. CEO Aaron W. Saak said the company is "raising the midpoint of our full-year adjusted EPS guidance."
Cash from operations was $111.8 million in the quarter. Order backlog stood at $715.5 million at September 30, down from $755.5 million at June 30, and includes about $125 million tied to Antares Vision, the business acquired in March 2026.
Dividend and call
Crane NXT declared a quarterly dividend of $0.18 per share, payable December 9 to holders of record on November 30. Management discusses the results on a conference call Thursday at 10:00 a.m. ET.
Net debt was $1,161.5 million at September 30, a net leverage ratio of 2.5, and Saak said free cash flow keeps the company on track for its year-end deleveraging target.
