Bioventus Cuts Interest Bill By Nearly Half In Quarter, Lifting Adjusted EPS 13% While Sale Review Continues

Bioventus, which makes pain-relief, surgical and bone-healing products, said third-quarter revenue rose 3% to $142.4 million, and lower interest expense pushed adjusted earnings per share up 13% to $0.17. The company also said it is still reviewing potential strategic alternatives, according to an 8-K filed Monday.

Interest savings carry the profit

Net income attributable to Bioventus was $6.0 million, against $3.2 million a year earlier. Earnings were $0.08 per diluted share, up from $0.05. Adjusted EPS of $0.17 compared with $0.15 a year ago, which the company attributed to lower interest expense.

Net interest expense was $3.8 million for the quarter, from $6.2 million in the year-earlier period. Operating income fell to $9.7 million from $11.3 million. Adjusted EBITDA, the company's own earnings-before-interest-and-other-items measure, rose 7% to $28.4 million.

During the quarter Bioventus made a discretionary $15.0 million prepayment on its term loan, funded by operating cash flow, which it said lowers future interest payments. Cash from operations was $20.7 million.

Pain products grow, bone-healing slips

Pain Treatments revenue rose 6.2% to $71.3 million, led by hyaluronic acid knee products, particularly Durolane, along with its platelet-rich plasma system and nerve stimulation products. Surgical Solutions edged up 0.7% to $50.5 million. Restorative Therapies fell 3.4% to $20.6 million on lower volume of the EXOGEN bone stimulation system.

U.S. sales rose 1.0% to $124.6 million, while International sales climbed 16.4% to $17.8 million.

Guidance and the review

For 2026, Bioventus reaffirmed adjusted EPS guidance of $0.75 to $0.79 and updated net sales guidance to $590 million to $595 million, growth of approximately 4% to 5%. It also began guiding to adjusted cash from operations of $84 million to $89 million, a measure that excludes cash spent on the strategic alternatives review.

The company said the review followed an unsolicited acquisition proposal and other expressions of interest in the second quarter. Cash paid for the review was $0.4 million in the quarter, and legal and consulting costs of $3.6 million were added back in adjusted EBITDA.

CEO Rob Claypoole said the company continues "to review potential strategic alternatives for the Company as we explore all opportunities to maximize value for our shareholders."

Management hosts a call at 4:30 p.m. Eastern on Monday to discuss the results and give a business update.
