# Viking Wants A Maintenance Dosing Label For VK2735, But Says The Filing Plan Is 'TBD'

[Viking Therapeutics](https://www.bullished.co/tag/vktx/), a clinical-stage drug developer working on obesity treatments, wants less-frequent dosing language on the label of its lead drug VK2735, CEO Brian Lian said on the company's [third-quarter earnings call](https://finance.yahoo.com/healthcare/articles/viking-therapeutics-reports-third-quarter-200500003.html?ref=bullished.co) on Wednesday. The supporting data would probably reach the FDA after the first application, he said.

## Label is the preference

Asked by a JPMorgan analyst whether the company could win a maintenance label, Lian said

## Supplement more likely than initial filing

Asked by an Oppenheimer analyst whether the every-other-week and monthly arms would be in the initial submission, Lian called it "TBD" and said it is "probably more likely that it would be a supplement later." He added it is possible something could be included in the first filing.

Another analyst asked whether part one of the maintenance study or the Vanquish extensions would be used. Lian said the extensions are more likely, because they are a "longer and larger data set." He called that package likelier to be standalone, with "too early to say definitively."

Lian said the Vanquish extension will include both every-other-week and monthly subcutaneous cohorts, and that dose levels will be disclosed once the extension is underway. A B. Riley analyst's question put its start in the first quarter of 2027.

## The maintenance data behind the pitch

Viking's maintenance study, whose first part was reported last month, put subjects through 21 weeks of weekly dosing and then moved them to [every-other-week or monthly dosing](https://finance.yahoo.com/healthcare/articles/viking-therapeutics-reports-third-quarter-200500003.html?ref=bullished.co). Lian said weight loss retained at week 33 ranged from 83% to 97% with every-other-week dosing and 82% to 90% with monthly dosing, against 61% for those switched to placebo.

Tolerability during the 12-week maintenance phase was not meaningfully different from placebo, he said. Part two adds daily oral doses and more subcutaneous arms, with results expected in 2027.

Viking ended the quarter with $960 million in cash and short-term investments, after financing that raised gross proceeds of about $575 million. It reported a third-quarter net loss of $183.2 million, or [$1.55 per share](https://seekingalpha.com/news/4659567-viking-therapeutics-gaap-eps-of-1%5F55-misses-by-0%5F50?ref=bullished.co), compared with $90.8 million a year earlier.

If the label push falls short, Lian said, the company would still have "a pretty robust data set" to share with clinicians at scientific conferences.
