Transocean said Equinor has given final approval to its three-rig Norway agreement, moving a contract of about [$1.0 billion](https://www.benzinga.com/news/26/10/62265896/full-transcript-transocean-q2-2026-earnings-call?ref=bullished.co) into firm backlog, according to an 8-K filed Friday. The same filing discloses a new two-well award from A/S Norske Shell worth about $62 million.

## What the 8-K says

The filing covers the previously announced Equinor agreement for three harsh environment semisubmersible rigs in Norway: the Transocean Enabler, Transocean Encourage and Transocean Endurance. Transocean said final approval arrived in late September, and the total contract value of about [$1.0 billion](https://www.benzinga.com/news/26/10/62265896/full-transcript-transocean-q2-2026-earnings-call?ref=bullished.co) now counts in backlog.

The press release attached as [Exhibit 99.1](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001451505/000145150526000072/rig-ex99d1.htm?ref=bullished.co) carries a headline backlog figure of approximately $1.1 billion, which includes the fully approved Equinor deal.

Separately, the Transocean Norge was awarded a two-well contract with A/S Norske Shell. The company estimates 120 days of work and about $62 million in backlog, excluding additional services. The contract also includes one single-well option.

## What it changes

The Equinor agreement was already announced; what changed is its status. The roughly $1.0 billion moves from announced to firm backlog now that final approval is in hand.

The Shell job is new business. It is expected to start in direct continuation of the Norge's previously awarded Norway programs, so the rig's schedule in the country extends rather than opens a gap. The release gives no start date.

Transocean shares closed at $5.54 at Thursday's close, up 2.78% in that session, which ended before the company published the announcement (market data).

## The fleet behind the contracts

Transocean describes its fleet as 27 mobile offshore drilling units, owned outright or in part: 20 ultra-deepwater floaters and seven harsh environment floaters. The forward-looking-statement section of the release also refers to the company's proposed business combination with Valaris Limited.

The next marker is the Norge's Shell program, which Transocean says will begin directly after the rig's earlier Norway work.
