T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan told analysts on the company's third-quarter earnings call Wednesday that he sees "no room for an MBNO with SpaceX either on the consumer side or on the physical and edge AI side." A plain commercial arrangement, he said, would be a different matter.

## A hard line on wholesale access

Asked by a BNP Paribas analyst whether T-Mobile would work with SpaceX, Gopalan said the company's test for a wholesale deal, in which another company sells service over its network, has not changed. It asks whether the deal brings incremental addressable market, new distribution channels or new capability. He called satellite a complementary product, so he sees no room for an MVNO for satellite or SpaceX.

On physical and edge AI, he said T-Mobile is building 5G standalone and moving toward 6G, and sees itself in the lead. "What additional capabilities does it give us?" he asked of an MVNO. If SpaceX were a customer or a supplier, he said, "that's a purely commercial agreement."

## Satellite as 'an inferior version of FWA'

A Barclays analyst pressed on whether the objection was specific to SpaceX or covered every satellite provider, citing spectrum capacity relief and coverage breadth. Gopalan said SpaceX's strategy is now hard to categorize as satellite or terrestrial, and answered for satellite broadly.

Except in deep rural areas, he said, satellite is "an inferior version of FWA," T-Mobile's fixed wireless home internet. He said two-thirds of its fixed wireless customers come from dense urban areas, where he sees large growth ahead, so he sees little synergy.

He said he would consider a resale arrangement for a complementary product, which is what T-Satellite was. An MVNO, he said, is "a wholly different thing."

## The SpaceX backdrop and the quarter

SpaceX recently signed an [$8 billion deal](https://www.marketwatch.com/story/t-mobile-3q-profit-revenue-rise-on-postpaid-growth-096d4d4f?ref=bullished.co) to buy cellular spectrum licenses and has said it wants to push Starlink beyond broadband, according to MarketWatch. The report cast it as a potential new rival to the big carriers.

T-Mobile, which sells wireless and broadband service to consumers and businesses and had a market value of $157.5 billion, reported [274,000 postpaid net](https://www.marketwatch.com/story/t-mobile-3q-profit-revenue-rise-on-postpaid-growth-096d4d4f?ref=bullished.co) account additions for the quarter. It said postpaid service revenue grew 9%. CFO Peter Osvaldik said the company now expects full-year service revenue of about $76.8 billion and adjusted free cash flow of $18.7 billion to $18.8 billion.

Osvaldik also said that through October 23 the company had done $10.3 billion of buybacks this year, against $9.9 billion in all of 2025\. He expects more of the capital budget to go to spectrum as the FCC's 2027 and 2028 auctions arrive.

Gopalan said T-Mobile will approach the upcoming spectrum auctions with rigor on price, and will not pay an uneconomic one.
