[Summit Therapeutics](https://www.bullished.co/tag/smmt/), which develops the cancer antibody ivonescimab, said its adjusted third-quarter net loss widened to [$160.7 million](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001599298/000159929826000088/a2026%5Fprx1105xq32026earn.htm?ref=bullished.co) from $101.0 million a year earlier. The results arrived 10 days before the FDA's November 14 target date to decide on its lung cancer application.

## Spending climbs on ivonescimab studies

On a standard-accounting basis, the net loss was $208.4 million, or $0.26 per share, against $231.8 million, or $0.31 per share, a year earlier. The adjusted figure strips out stock-based compensation, a non-cash charge, which fell to $47.7 million from $130.8 million.

Adjusted operating expenses rose to $166.9 million from $103.4 million, which the company attributed to broader ivonescimab studies. Research and development spending was $169.1 million, up from $131.1 million. General and administrative costs dropped to $45.5 million from $103.1 million, with stock compensation down $66.4 million.

For the first nine months, operating activities used $423.2 million in cash, compared with $221.0 million in the same period of 2025.

## Cash before the AstraZeneca money

Cash and short-term investments stood at [$629.8 million](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261104735455/en/Summit-Therapeutics-Reports-Financial-Results-and-Operational-Progress-for-the-Third-Quarter-and-Nine-Months-Ended-September-30-2026?ref=bullished.co) on September 30, down from $713.4 million at the end of 2025\. During the third quarter Summit raised $94.1 million in gross proceeds through its at-the-market stock-sale program.

AstraZeneca completed its [$2.0 billion equity investment](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261104735455/en/Summit-Therapeutics-Reports-Financial-Results-and-Operational-Progress-for-the-Third-Quarter-and-Nine-Months-Ended-September-30-2026?ref=bullished.co) on October 5, buying convertible preferred stock equal to a common price of $18.36 a share. Separately, stockholders approved doubling authorized common shares to 2,000,000,000, with [658,142,561 votes for](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001599298/000159929826000088/smmt-20261104.htm?ref=bullished.co) and 1,983,511 against.

## An FDA decision without an overall survival win

Summit has no approved products. It holds rights to ivonescimab in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Japan, licensed from Akeso. The FDA accepted its application for the drug plus chemotherapy in EGFR-mutated non-squamous lung cancer in January.

The HARMONi trial met its progression-free survival goal, but overall survival showed only a positive trend without statistical significance. The company said the FDA has noted that a significant survival benefit is necessary to support authorization in this setting. Summit still believes the drug has a favorable benefit-risk profile and cites an updated overall survival hazard ratio of 0.76.

Summit plans a call after the FDA acts. Initial data from HARMONi-3 in first-line squamous lung cancer are also expected, with the primary progression-free survival analysis anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The FDA's goal date for ivonescimab is November 14, and Summit will issue call details after the agency acts.
