Net interest swung to $1.4 million of expense from $0.7 million of income, while management said price investments will pressure margins. ## A headquarters lease starts costing money Construction on the new corporate headquarters campus and store finished during the third quarter, and Sprouts began recognizing depreciation and interest on the building and its related finance obligation once it took possession. The company has recorded $118.6 million in both building assets and finance obligations, up from the [$99.2 million](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001575515/000157551526000037/sfm-20260628.htm?ref=bullished.co) carried as construction in progress in the prior quarter's filing. The lease runs 10 years with total non-cancellable payments of $105.3 million. Sprouts also guarantees the property's residual value, so if it declines to renew and the asset is worth less than the guaranteed figure when the term ends, it owes the lessor the shortfall. As of September 27, no amounts under the guarantee have been deemed probable. Beyond falling rates and lower invested cash, the filing cites growing finance lease obligations as a driver of the interest swing. ## Traffic falls, prices are next Comparable store sales fell 0.9% in the quarter, driven by a 3.3% drop in transactions that a 2.5% rise in transaction size only partly offset. The cyclospora outbreak, which hit several produce categories, cost 0.6% of comparable sales. Gross margin fell to 38.2% from 38.7%, with shrink and fuel costs the cited causes. Through October 26 it bought a further 0.5 million shares for $30.0 million. The company runs 504 stores in 25 states and has no debt outstanding under its $600 million revolver. A shareholder class action over statements about customer resilience is also moving. The court named Peter Robinson lead plaintiff on September 4, and he faces a November 10, 2026 deadline to file an amended complaint. The company says it intends to defend the case vigorously.
