# SiriusPoint Adds Progressive's Longtime Finance Chief John Sauerland To Its Board

SiriusPoint, a Bermuda-headquartered specialty underwriter of insurance and reinsurance, [appointed John Sauerland](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001576018/000157601826000092/tpre-20261103.htm?ref=bullished.co) to its board on Tuesday, effective January 1, 2027\. Sauerland has more than 35 years in insurance and most recently served as chief financial officer at Progressive Insurance.

## An audit-qualified independent director

The board determined that Sauerland meets the New York Stock Exchange's independence requirements and qualifies as an "audit committee financial expert," according to the [8-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001576018/000157601826000092/tpre-20261103.htm?ref=bullished.co). He joins as a Class I director and will serve until the 2029 annual general meeting of shareholders.

He has not yet been placed on any board committees. The company said it will file an amendment to the [8-K](https://www.bullished.co/learn/8-k-items-explained/) to disclose those assignments once they are decided.

For his board service he will receive the same pay as SiriusPoint's other non-employee directors, as set out in the proxy statement filed April 10, 2026\. He has also signed an indemnification agreement and a director service agreement, each in the standard form used for the company's other directors.

## From Progressive to four other boards

Beyond Progressive, Sauerland has served on the boards of Beazley, FedEx Freight, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, the company's [press release](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001576018/000157601826000092/exh991-pressreleasexsauerl.htm?ref=bullished.co) says.

"What attracted me to SiriusPoint was the progress the business has made and the clarity of its strategy," Sauerland said in the release. Board Chair Bronek Masojada said Sauerland's mix of insurance knowledge, financial expertise and governance experience makes him a strong addition.

## The business he is joining

SiriusPoint writes property, casualty, and accident and health coverage worldwide. Its Insurance & Services segment, which writes primary insurance mostly through managing general agents, made up 62.4% of its $3,705.6 million in gross written premium in 2025, according to its annual report. The Reinsurance segment, which sells to insurers and reinsurers mainly through brokers, made up 37.1%.

The company's operating companies hold over $3.0 billion in total capital, the press release says. They carry a financial strength rating of A from AM Best, Fitch and S&P, and A3 from Moody's.

Sauerland's term starts January 1, 2027, and SiriusPoint will file an 8-K amendment naming his committee assignments.
