[Simpson Manufacturing](https://www.bullished.co/tag/ssd/)'s board approved a [$1 billion share repurchase authorization](https://seekingalpha.com/news/4657566-simpson-manufacturing-announces-new-1b-share-repurchase-plan?ref=bullished.co) with no expiration date, CFO Matt Dunn said on the company's Monday third-quarter earnings call. It supersedes a prior $200 million plan, and Dunn said buybacks could rise if acquisitions do not materialize.

## A shift from short-term plans

Simpson, which makes structural connectors, anchors and other products for wood and concrete construction under the Simpson Strong-Tie brand, approved the new authorization on October 22, Dunn said.

Asked by an analyst why the company moved away from shorter-term authorizations, Dunn called it "a little bit of a strategic shift in how we've managed it in the past." He said it gives clarity on midterm intentions and flexibility to be opportunistic about when shares are repurchased across fiscal years.

The analyst also asked whether returns could go beyond the target if M&A does not present itself. Dunn said there are acquisition opportunities "that would be of interest, but none that are active," so the focus for now is returning cash through buybacks. He pointed to a publicly stated threshold of 35% of free cash flow, noting the company has run "north of 50%" in recent years, and said: "If anything, maybe step it up a little bit again if we're not seeing the M&A opportunities out there."

## Cash to fund it

Simpson bought back $66.3 million of its stock in the third quarter, Dunn said. It also paid $12.3 million in dividends, invested $11.9 million in capital spending and repaid $25 million on its revolving credit line.

Cash flow from operations was $173.3 million in the quarter. At September 30, debt stood at $308 million against $491.3 million of cash, a net cash position of $183.3 million. The board also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.30 per share, payable January 28, 2027, to holders of record January 7, 2027.

## Sales up 2.3%, steel costs climbing

Net sales rose 2.3% to [$638.1 million](https://www.9news.com/article/syndication/associatedpress/simpson-manufacturing-q3-earnings-snapshot/616-57c150cc-9a00-4644-bccd-6318059ea17f?ref=bullished.co), with pricing contributing 2.5% and volumes roughly flat. Net income was $109.1 million, or $2.68 per diluted share, against $107.4 million, or $2.58, a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA rose 7.4% to $167.2 million.

CEO Michael Olosky said steel is up over 50% from a year ago and at its highest in more than four years, and the company expects to announce more price increases in the coming weeks. Gross margin slipped 40 basis points to 45.7%.

For 2026, Simpson now expects a consolidated operating margin of 20.0% to 20.5%. Olosky said volume should be down slightly for the rest of the year.

Simpson's board declared its next dividend of $0.30 per share for payment on January 28, 2027.
