# Shentel's Executive Chairman Christopher French To Step Into Non-Executive Role January 1 With $85,000 Retainer

[Shenandoah Telecommunications](https://www.bullished.co/tag/shen/), the Virginia broadband provider known as Shentel, will turn Executive Chairman Christopher E. French into a non-executive chairman effective January 1, 2027, according to an [8-K filed Thursday](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0000354963/000117184326006778/f8k%5F102226.htm?ref=bullished.co). The board approved the move on Tuesday, and French will draw an [$85,000 annual retainer](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0000354963/000117184326006778/f8k%5F102226.htm?ref=bullished.co) for chairing the board.

## From executive to outside director

Once the change takes effect, French will no longer be an executive officer of the company. His pay will follow Shentel's standard compensation policies for non-employee directors, and the $85,000 retainer is added in connection with his service as Chairman of the Board.

He keeps the chairman's seat. What goes is the executive title, and the officer status that comes with it.

## A rural broadband operator

Shentel provides broadband internet, video and voice services over fiber-optic and cable networks in parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Delaware, Ohio and Indiana, according to its annual report for 2025\. It also leases dark fiber, meaning unused fiber-optic cable, and sells Ethernet and Wavelength fiber services to enterprise and wholesale customers.

Its Glo Fiber fiber-to-the-home service passed approximately 427,000 homes and businesses at the end of 2025, and its older broadband network passed approximately 252,000\. The company served approximately 262,000 revenue generating units at December 31, 2025, owns about 19,000 route miles of fiber, and had 1,041 employees.

## Shares up before the filing

SHEN shares closed at $10.30 on Thursday, up 5.53% for the session. The 8-K was accepted at 4:15 p.m. ET, after that close, so the day's gain came before the disclosure.

The new arrangement starts January 1, 2027, the day French's executive officer status ends.
