PepsiCo's North America beverage unit grew third-quarter operating profit [45%](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0000077476/000007747626000048/pep-20260905.htm?ref=bullished.co), but the 10-Q credits a 23-percentage-point favorable net impact from global tariffs, which includes refunds, while organic volume fell 3%. Companywide, core operating profit rose just 3% in the 12 weeks, against 19% as reported.

## What the 10-Q says

The filing ties the beverage unit's gain to the tariff swing and to credits related to poppi, alongside the 3% drop in organic volume.

Across the company, tariff refunds added 4 percentage points to the 19% rise in 12-week operating profit. PepsiCo says it has received substantially all of the refunds it claimed on IEEPA tariffs.

Core diluted earnings per share rose 2% to [$2.34](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/10/08/pepsico-pep-q3-2026-earnings.html?ref=bullished.co) from $2.29, the company reported. Core figures strip out items the company excludes from its underlying results.

In North American foods (PFNA), core operating profit fell 12% on slightly lower net revenue. Unit volume grew slightly, helped by a 1% rise in savory snacks and offset by a 4% decline in other foods volume, according to the filing.

## The refund language changed

The [prior quarter's 10-Q](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0000077476/000007747626000035/pep-20260613.htm?ref=bullished.co) said the ultimate recoverability, timing and amount of refunds "remain uncertain and subject to CBP review." That sentence does not appear in the new filing, which says substantially all refunds were received.

The diff of the two filings also shows PepsiCo expects roughly $500 million of pre-tax restructuring charges and about $250 million of cash spending for the rest of 2026, funded mainly from operations. Plan-to-date charges stand at [$4.0 billion](https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/business/pepsicos-fizz-fades-as-glp-1-drugs-and-activist-investor-elliotts-targets-test-its-snack-business/articleshow/134765657.cms?ref=bullished.co), up from $3.8 billion in the prior filing.

Cash generation was strong: free cash flow for the 36 weeks ended September 5, 2026 was $5,857 million, versus $3,241 million a year earlier. The company attributes the rise to operating profit and working capital.

## What to watch

Fourth-quarter results will show whether North America beverage profit holds without refunds, and whether the remaining restructuring charges arrive as guided.

The refund was a one-time cash item, and the filing's core figures, up 3%, show the underlying trend.
