[Ouster](https://www.bullished.co/tag/oust/), which makes digital lidar sensors, cameras and AI computing hardware for machines, is building installed lidar capacity of 100,000 annualized units by the end of 2027, CEO Angus Pacala said on the company's third-quarter earnings call. He told analysts the figure is a buffer, not a sales forecast.

## Capacity is a cushion, not a forecast

An analyst from Northland Capital Markets noted that 100,000 units a year would imply quarterly revenue of probably over $100 million, more than double current levels. Pacala answered that "this is not a commitment to 100,000 unit annualized volume at some point next year."

Ouster wants "more capacity than we are shipping at any given moment," he said, so it can meet demand spikes. The capacity is being built with partner Benchmark, he said, with major capital spending on manufacturing technology running from this quarter through the end of 2027.

Pacala added that Ouster grows its unit volumes every year and expects annualized demand of that scale in the company's near future.

## Rev8 ramp and a record quarter

Chief Financial Officer Ken Gianella told a Rosenblatt analyst that Rev8, the company's new native-color lidar, is going "from hundreds this quarter to thousands next quarter to tens of thousands by the end of FY27." Pacala said many thousands of Rev8 sensors sit in the backlog; the product launched in May.

Third-quarter revenue was $59 million, up about 50% from a year earlier and a company record, with about $3 million of that from royalties. Ouster shipped over 27,000 sensors, including over 7,000 lidars and 20,000 cameras. Adjusted EBITDA was a loss of $3 million, against a loss of $8 million a year earlier.

Standard-accounting gross margin was 43%, essentially flat from a year ago and six points lower than the prior quarter, which Gianella attributed mainly to a one-time $5 million tariff refund in the earlier period. Pacala said Ouster stays committed to a long-term gross margin of 35% to 40%, adding that results have come in a little above that for a while.

## StereoLabs cameras and the cash cushion

Gianella said the StereoLabs camera business, bought earlier this year, shipped over 20,000 cameras and more than doubled production from the prior quarter. Asked whether that pace would hold, Pacala pointed to company guidance and said he would not detail individual quarters.

Fourth-quarter revenue is guided to $61 million to $64 million, including an estimated $3 million of royalties.

Ouster ended the quarter with about $421 million in cash, including roughly $191 million of net proceeds from a common stock offering completed in early July. Gianella said management does not expect to need additional capital to reach its operating objectives. The company's market value was about $2.0 billion.

Gianella's Rev8 schedule gives the next test: thousands of units in the fourth quarter, on the way to tens of thousands by the end of fiscal 2027.
