When an analyst pressed on 2027 same-store sales, management would not put a number on it. ## Store growth keeps accelerating President Brent Kirby said the company opened 63 stores in the third quarter, bringing [net new openings](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/898173/000089817326000050/orly-ex99d1.htm?ref=bullished.co) for the year to date to 173\. He said O'Reilly is on pace for its 2026 target. The 2026 openings have spread across 36 states, Canada and Mexico, and the 2027 plan will follow a similar pattern. CEO Brad Beckham said the company would not guide store growth beyond 2027\. New stores, he said, remain "our strongest return on our next dollar spent," backed by distribution and technology spending. He pointed to a new distribution center near Dallas and said the company currently runs 32 regional distribution centers and 400 hub stores. O'Reilly sells to do-it-yourself car owners and professional repair shops, each about half of sales in 2025, according to its annual report. ## No 2027 comp number An analyst from UBS said consensus calls for 4% same-store sales growth next year, and asked whether 2027 would be a below-average year after outsized share gains, fading inflation help and uncertain weather. CFO Jeremy Fletcher said the company never puts a fine point on next year. He said management wants a clean read on inflation and weather over the next few months. Fletcher said nobody in management or the field organization expects the company "to step back in that ability to grow and to gain share." He said a better read would come as the calendar turns. That comes after a third quarter in which comparable store sales rose 7.2% and diluted earnings per share rose 14%. Beckham said same-SKU inflation added slightly over 4% to average ticket. Fletcher said he expects inflation to ease to about 2.5% to 3% in the fourth quarter. ## Guidance raised for 2026 The company raised its full-year comparable sales outlook to 5.5% to 6.5%, from 4% to 6%. Gross margin in the quarter was 52.4%, including a $39 million tariff refund that Kirby said was passed through from suppliers.
