# NWPX Books $11 Million In Data Center Precast Orders As Housing Demand Fades

[NWPX Infrastructure](https://www.bullished.co/tag/nwpx/), which makes large-diameter steel water pipe and precast concrete products, has [booked more than $11 million](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/nwpx-infrastructure-announces-third-quarter-201500590.html?ref=bullished.co) of data center orders through the third quarter, CEO Scott Montross told analysts on the company's earnings call Thursday. He said the work is helping offset weak housing demand in its precast business.

## Data center bids grow tenfold

Through the third quarter, the company quoted $33.5 million of data center projects, Montross said, and margins on those orders are generally higher than on normal precast work.

Early bids ran $300,000 to $400,000\. The projects the company is now trying to convert to orders are as large as $3 million to $5 million, he said, and several large ones are in the works.

Montross pointed to Texas, where he said 49 data centers are under construction and 114 more are planned, 72 of them in pre-construction. He acknowledged a slowdown tied to political issues but said next year's data center volume could exceed this year's.

The company still calls data centers a relatively small part of the business that it approaches selectively.

## Geneva plants swing away from housing

The Geneva facilities were generally about 85% residential, Montross said. This year they are about 40% residential, with non-residential and data center orders filling the rest.

He said residential is slow because of interest rates. Nonresidential indicators are only slightly up, driven by institutional work, while commercial is down about 3% year over year. In his words, it "be down a whole lot more if it wasn't for data centers." The company has also moved into hospitals and schools.

## Precast quarter and outlook

Precast revenue edged up 0.6% to $47.5 million in the third quarter, with volume shipped down 4% and prices up 3%. Precast gross margin rose to 22.9% from 21.3%. Some customers delayed shipments amid uncertainty over interest rates and fuel costs, leaving revenue somewhat below management's expectations.

The company's precast product spread strategy has quoted $58.3 million of projects through September, with $9.7 million booked, more than all of 2025's bookings. The quarter-end precast order book was $67 million, including $10 million from the newly bought Serpentix.

Montross said fourth-quarter precast should be steady, mostly compared with the third quarter, and that 2026 should be a record year for precast revenue.

Montross said orders already in hand support the fourth quarter, and the company expects to talk again in February or early March.
