[Hyatt Hotels](https://www.bullished.co/tag/h/), which runs and licenses hotels and all-inclusive resorts under brands such as Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency, cut its third-quarter tax provision to [$18 million from $33 million](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001468174/000146817426000034/h-20260930.htm?ref=bullished.co), chiefly because a valuation allowance on some foreign deferred tax assets was released without any cash effect, its 10-Q filed Thursday shows. The same filing shows $755 million of its $4.4 billion in debt now due in the short term.

## Profit helped by a tax benefit

Hyatt reported $79 million of pre-tax income in the quarter against a $17 million pre-tax loss a year earlier. Net income attributable to Hyatt was [$58 million](https://www.benzinga.com/markets/earnings/26/10/62692453/hyatt-bets-on-luxury-wins-big-and-raises-2026-growth-outlook?ref=bullished.co), or $0.60 per diluted share, versus a $49 million loss.

The effective tax rate was 22.8%. The filing attributes the lower provision to the valuation allowance release, which it calls a non-cash tax benefit.

Adjusted EBITDA, the company's own adjusted profit measure, rose to [$295 million](https://www.benzinga.com/markets/earnings/26/10/62692453/hyatt-bets-on-luxury-wins-big-and-raises-2026-growth-outlook?ref=bullished.co), up $17 million from a year earlier. Revenue fell $43 million, or 2.5%, as the sale of the Playa Hotels portfolio cut owned and leased revenue by $158 million, while gross fees rose 15.2% to $327 million.

## Debt due, cash down, revolver drawn

Current maturities of long-term debt stood at $755 million at September 30, against $6 million at December 31\. The company's $600 million of 5.750% notes mature in 2027, and the revolver draw carries a 2026 maturity.

Hyatt [borrowed $150 million](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001468174/000146817426000034/h-20260930.htm?ref=bullished.co) on its revolving credit facility during the quarter at a weighted-average rate of 4.8%. Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled $495 million, with $1,347 million of revolver capacity left and $1,842 million of total liquidity. The company says its cash, operating cash flow and borrowing capacity are adequate for its funding needs.

Operating cash flow for the first nine months was $15 million, versus $66 million a year earlier. Hyatt blames a mandatory payout from its deferred compensation plan to a retired former executive officer, covered by rabbi-trust securities, plus larger key-money payments.

## Buybacks continue at pace

Hyatt repurchased $147 million of stock in the quarter and $294 million over nine months. The authorization had $1,384 million left at September 30, versus $1,531 million at June 30, per the [prior quarterly filing](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001468174/000146817426000025/h-20260630.htm?ref=bullished.co). Dividends added $14 million in the quarter.

## The loyalty-program tax case

The Seventh Circuit denied the IRS's rehearing petition on August 21 and sent the loyalty-program case back to the Tax Court by mandate on August 31\. If the proceedings end consistent with the Tax Court's earlier opinion, the tax payment due for 2012 through 2026 would be $434 million, including $76 million of estimated interest, the filing says. Hyatt says it has an adequate uncertain tax liability recorded and expects no material effect on its finances.

Total unrecognized tax benefits were $517 million at September 30, against $503 million at December 31, driven mainly by an accrual for the loyalty-program treatment.

The Tax Court now picks up the remanded loyalty-program case, while Hyatt must handle the $755 million of debt classified as current.
