# Floor & Decor Earnings Per Share Climb 15% Even As Same-Store Sales Slip 1.4%

Floor & Decor, the hard-surface flooring retailer, said Thursday that third-quarter diluted earnings per share [rose 15.1% to $0.61](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261029468154/en/Floor-Decor-Holdings-Inc.-Announces-Third-Quarter-Fiscal-2026-Financial-Results?ref=bullished.co) even as [sales at stores open at least a year fell 1.4%](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001507079/000162828026068242/fnd-20260924x8kxex991.htm?ref=bullished.co). Total net sales rose 3.0% to $1,214.6 million, and the company announced a board overhaul alongside the results.

## Profit up on flat-to-down traffic

[Net income rose 13.2%](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261029468154/en/Floor-Decor-Holdings-Inc.-Announces-Third-Quarter-Fiscal-2026-Financial-Results?ref=bullished.co) to $64.8 million from $57.3 million a year earlier. Operating income climbed 8.3% to $78.0 million, and operating margin of 6.4% was up 30 basis points (0.3 percentage points).

Adjusted EBITDA, a non-standard profit measure, rose 7.4% to $149.1 million. The company opened one warehouse store, ending the quarter with 282 stores and five design studios, and spent $91.4 million on share repurchases.

CEO Brad Paulsen credited the "resilience of our business model" in what he called a "challenging demand environment."

For the first 39 weeks, net cash from operating activities was $485.3 million, against $257.8 million a year earlier.

## A lower same-store sales outlook

The updated fiscal 2026 outlook calls for net sales of about $4,765 million to $4,835 million, with the 53rd week contributing about $65 million. Comparable store sales are guided to fall roughly 2.0% to 3.5%, and diluted EPS to land at about $2.19 to $2.29\. The company plans 20 new warehouse stores.

Floor & Decor sells laminate and vinyl, tile, wood and natural stone flooring through warehouse-format stores. It operated 282 of them across 39 states as of September 24, 2026\. A conference call was set for 5:00 p.m. Eastern Thursday.

## Taylor steps back, an activist-style investor steps in

In an [8-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001507079/000162828026068242/fnd-20261027.htm?ref=bullished.co), the company said Executive Chair Thomas Taylor will become non-executive Chair on January 1, 2027\. He will no longer be an executive officer. For 2027 he will receive a $95,000 board retainer and a $100,000 Chair retainer, plus equity awards valued at $150,000 and $100,000.

Lauren Taylor Wolfe, co-founder and managing partner of Impactive Capital, joins the board as an independent director on February 1, 2027, and will sit on the Audit Committee. Lead Director Norman Axelrod will not stand for reelection at the annual meeting expected in May 2027 and will retire from the board after 17 years; the company said his decision was not the result of any disagreement.

Taylor said the changes reflect "the strong execution of our succession plan to Brad Paulsen."

Taylor's shift to non-executive Chair takes effect January 1, 2027, and Taylor Wolfe's board seat begins February 1.
