The European Commission has designated Eldorado Gold's Skouries copper-gold mine in northern Greece a Strategic Project under the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act, the company said in a [release dated Friday](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/918608/000110465926115108/tm2627410d1%5Fex99-1.htm?ref=bullished.co), which it furnished to the SEC on Form 6-K. The act is known as the CRMA.

## What the release says

Skouries sits in the Halkidiki region of northern Greece. The company says it recently began operations and has a mine life of approximately 20 years, with expected output of both copper and gold.

The project represents more than US$2 billion of investment, according to the release, and is expected to support hundreds of direct jobs plus economic activity across the region.

The release says copper is listed as a strategic raw material under the CRMA. It describes copper as a critical metal for electrification, renewable energy infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and Europe's energy transition.

## What the designation means

The release says the CRMA was adopted to strengthen the EU's access to critical raw materials and reduce dependence on outside suppliers. Strategic Projects are chosen on their potential contribution to supply security, technical feasibility, sustainability standards and wider benefits to the EU.

CEO Christian Milau said the designation "underscores its importance not only to Greece, but also to Europe as a whole." He called Skouries "one of the largest new copper-gold mines in Europe."

The release does not put a dollar figure on any funding or permitting benefit from the designation.

At Friday's close, EGO shares were $37.66, up 2.17% on the session, for a market value of $9.8 billion. The company's release came after that close, so the move predates the news.

The release names no further dated step tied to the designation; its forward-looking statements flag construction and development risks at Skouries.
