# Ecolab CEO Says 63% High-Tech Growth Won't Last: 'Quarters Are Not All Treated Equal'

[Ecolab](https://www.bullished.co/tag/ecl/), which sells water treatment, hygiene and infection prevention products and services, posted [63% organic growth](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/ecolab-q3-earnings-line-estimates-173000660.html?.tsrc=rss&ref=bullished.co) in global high-tech last quarter, and Chairman and CEO Christophe Beck told analysts on the third-quarter earnings call that the pace is not the plan. "63% is not going to be the steady state growth that we're planning," he said. "Quarters are not all treated equal."

## Delivery timing, not cross-selling

Asked by a BMO Capital Markets analyst whether the jump from 29% in the second quarter came from cross-selling, Beck said

## CoolIT ahead of plan, with short visibility

Beck said CoolIT more than doubled its sales and is running slightly ahead of plan. Data center visibility is shorter than in microelectronics, which needs a few years to build: data center builds run on "more quarters than years."

He said Ecolab has owned CoolIT for almost three months and Ovivo for a little less than a year, and both now sit under single leaders for data centers and microelectronics. The goal is to sell cooling as a service, end to end and on a recurring basis, rather than individual pieces of equipment. Beck said CoolIT multiplies the dollar potential per installed megawatt by three to five times versus the legacy business, a directional figure he wants to firm up.

He also said Ecolab expects to need more capacity than planned for CDUs (cooling distribution units), cold plates, 3D Tracer technology and coolant, in Calgary and closer to customers.

## The $4 billion ambition and investor day

Management restated its goal for global high-tech to grow more than 25% annually and reach $4 billion in sales by 2030 at a 25% operating income margin. Beck called the targets "more achievable than ever."

Ecolab as a whole delivered 7% organic sales growth in the quarter, and Beck said every business outperformed its end market. He will give more detail on high-tech targets and 2027 at an investor day in mid-November. Ecolab's market value was $81.0 billion on Tuesday.

Beck said he expects 2027 to be an even stronger year than 2026, with organic sales growth at the upper end of the 5% to 7% target and an adjusted operating margin of 20%.
