Cartesian Therapeutics, which develops cell treatments for autoimmune diseases, is expanding its launch preparations with approximately [$124.7 million](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001453687/000145368726000110/rnac-20261105.htm?ref=bullished.co) in cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash at September 30\. Results accompanying its Thursday SEC filing said that money should support planned operations into 2028, including completion of its late-stage Descartes-08 trial.

## Funding Trials And Launch Preparations

Cartesian has expanded its medical affairs and commercial teams ahead of a potential Descartes-08 launch. The company expects myasthenia gravis trial results in the first quarter of 2027 and plans to submit an FDA approval application in mid-2027.

Carsten Brunn, Cartesian’s president and chief executive officer, said its focus includes “preparing the organization for a [commercial launch](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001453687/000145368726000110/exhibit991%5Fearningsrelease.htm?ref=bullished.co).”

The cash balance includes an initial $50 million financing tranche from K2 HealthVentures and $22.8 million from shares sold through its market offering program this year, after commissions and expenses. RNAC shares rose about 8% to $7.29 in Friday trading.

## Trial Costs Rise, Net Loss Narrows

Research spending climbed to [$15.6 million](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001453687/000145368726000110/exhibit991%5Fearningsrelease.htm?ref=bullished.co) in the third quarter, compared with $13.8 million a year earlier. Higher costs for the myasthenia gravis and myositis trials drove the increase, partly offset by lower spending on early-stage programs.

Administrative expenses reached $9.4 million, versus $7.7 million a year earlier, mainly because of professional fees, consulting and employee costs.

The quarterly net loss narrowed to $11.5 million from $35.9 million; basic losses per common share were $0.38 versus $1.38\. That improvement came alongside a $10.7 million gain on the revaluation of contingent payment obligations, compared with a $16.9 million loss a year earlier. Operating losses widened to $25.001 million from $21.066 million.

## Descartes-08 Faces Its Pivotal Test

Descartes-08 uses patients’ own cells modified with messenger RNA. Cartesian makes treatments individually at its Frederick, Maryland, facility and sends them to physicians for outpatient infusion. Myasthenia gravis causes muscle weakness; myositis involves muscle inflammation.

The late-stage myasthenia gravis trial compares Descartes-08 with a placebo in approximately 100 patients. Treatment consists of six weekly outpatient infusions without preconditioning chemotherapy. Its main goal measures whether patients achieve at least a three-point improvement in daily functioning at month four.

In September, Cartesian presented [retreatment findings](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/11/05/3396234/0/en/cartesian-therapeutics-reports-third-quarter-2026-financial-results-and-provides-business-update.html?ref=bullished.co) for five patients whose symptoms returned after an initial treatment course. Retreatment took place a median of 16.6 months after that course ended. At 12 months after retreatment, average improvement on the daily-functioning scale was 6.6 points, and four of the five maintained a clinically meaningful improvement. The company reported no new safety signals.

Cartesian also expects data from a subset of its mid-stage myositis trial and from its pediatric autoimmune-disease trial in the first half of 2027\. The myositis findings will help determine a possible path to a pivotal trial. Enrollment continues in the pediatric study, which includes juvenile dermatomyositis.

A separate partnership with WestGene BioPharma remains in preclinical development. Laboratory testing has produced CAR-T cells using WestGene’s targeted lipid nanoparticles; Cartesian plans clinical development after preclinical testing is complete.

The next major Descartes-08 milestone is the late-stage myasthenia gravis readout expected in the first quarter of 2027, ahead of the planned mid-2027 FDA application.
