BlackRock's business units hold [5,219,492 shares](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0002012383/000201238326003757/xslSCHEDULE%5F13G%5FX01/primary%5Fdoc.xml?ref=bullished.co) of Aura Biosciences, or 5.03% of the common stock, according to a passive ownership filing (a Schedule 13G) dated Tuesday. Aura is a clinical-stage biotech developing tumor therapies meant to preserve organ function.

## Voting power and who holds the shares

The 5.03% is the cover-page percentage of the class, and the event that triggered the filing is September 30, 2026\. BlackRock reported sole voting power over 5,144,654 shares and no shared voting power, and classified itself as a parent holding company.

The report covers certain BlackRock units rather than the whole firm. [An exhibit](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2012383/000201238326003757/Item%5F7.txt?ref=bullished.co) lists seven of them, including BlackRock Fund Advisors and BlackRock Institutional Trust Company.

BlackRock certified that the shares were bought and are held in the ordinary course of business, not to change or influence control of Aura. The filing adds that various persons have the right to receive dividends or sale proceeds from the stock, and that no one person's interest exceeds 5% of the outstanding shares.

## An eye-cancer drug developer

Aura, based at 80 Guest Street in Boston, has no approved products. Its lead candidate, bel-sar, is a virus-like drug conjugate: a modified human papilloma virus protein shell attached to light-activated molecules that kill tumor cells when activated.

Bel-sar is in a global late-stage trial for early choroidal melanoma, a rare eye cancer. The company says more than 11,000 patients are diagnosed with it each year in the United States and Europe. The drug is also in clinical development for metastases to the choroid, cancers of the ocular surface and non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

## The stock at Tuesday's close

Aura shares closed at $6.30 on Tuesday, up 1.94% from the prior session, for a market value of $641 million.

The stake was certified as passive, held in the ordinary course of business with no aim of influencing control of Aura.
