[Amkor Technology](https://www.bullished.co/tag/amkr/) has signed advance-payment deals with [a dozen customers](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1047127/000104712726000049/amkr-20261026.htm?ref=bullished.co) since 2025, CFO Megan Faust said on the chipmaker's third-quarter earnings call Monday, and she expects the money to provide significant funding support for a step-up in 2027 capital spending. Amkor, which provides outsourced chip packaging and test services, said several more customer agreements are under discussion.

## Where the 2027 money goes

Faust said the company will give specific 2027 capex guidance on its fourth-quarter call in February. For now, she laid out a framework: Arizona could take up to 15% of its $12 billion campus in 2027, Korea $400 million to $450 million, and Vietnam about $50 million. Together, she said, those projects come to "higher than $2 billion."

For 2026, Amkor narrowed its capital spending estimate to around $2.5 billion, mainly because of the timing of construction payments on the Arizona campus. Phase one of Arizona remains on schedule for completion by the end of 2027, she said.

A Needham analyst noted that capex has climbed above 30% of sales, against a historical low-to-mid teens. Faust said spending will stay elevated as Arizona peaks in 2028 and 2029, when phase two is built while equipment for phase one arrives, and will probably taper afterward. Amkor has not given a long-term normalized level.

## Prepayments and the balance sheet

Asked by a KeyBanc analyst whether the build-out can proceed without new debt, Faust said the support in 2027 should push into 2028, when incremental debt may not be needed. She called it too early to tell for 2028 and beyond, but said "the balance sheet positioning is solid through 2027."

At September 30, Amkor held $2.4 billion in cash and short-term investments, with total liquidity of $3.4 billion. Total debt was $2.5 billion, or 1.7 times EBITDA.

CEO Kevin Engel said customers now see packaging as "becoming one of the key bottlenecks," so they are working to secure capacity into 2027 and 2028\. That is where the advance-payment talks come in. The arrangements mainly support Korea and Arizona capacity; a [Yahoo Finance report](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/amkor-rises-4-7-1-151004984.html?ref=bullished.co) put NVIDIA prepayments at about $3 billion after a new $1.3 billion Korea agreement.

## A quarter of record computing revenue

Third-quarter revenue was $1.99 billion, up 5% from the prior quarter, with record sales in computing and in automotive and industrial. Computing rose 25% sequentially. Gross margin was 18.3%, up 150 basis points from the prior quarter, and net income was $191 million, or 76 cents a share.

Communications revenue fell 8% sequentially, hit by the migration of SIP technology to Vietnam, memory constraints and component shortages. For the fourth quarter, Amkor guided to revenue of $1.9 billion to $2 billion and earnings of 65 to 75 cents a share, with computing up low double digits sequentially.

Amkor will put a number on 2027 capex when it reports fourth-quarter results in February.
